How to get to or from Barcelona airport
Barcelona El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport is located 12 km (7.5 mi) southwest of the Barcelona.
The airport has recently been renamed and receives its current name in homage to a Catalan politician, although it is still known technically as Barcelona-El Prat Airport. It also receives other popular nicknames such as Aeropuerto del Prat or BCN airport. It is the second largest international airport in Spain, after Madrid-Barajas International Airport, and is the first in Catalonia and the Mediterranean coast.
It has two passenger terminals, terminal T1 and terminal T2. Recent changes in the structure of terminal T2 have meant that what used to be three different terminals, terminal A, terminal B and terminal C, are now united in a single terminal, terminal T2.
AEROBUS
AEROBÚS service operates 365 days a year. The average travel time per journey is 35 minutes. The main departure and pick up points in the city center are Plaza Catlunya & Plaza España. There are two routes A1 to terminal 1 & A2 to terminal 2. Its important to check your getting on the correct service as these buses only serve their designated terminal and not both. If you get on the wrong bus or need to change terminals there is free shuttle bus between terminals and journey time is 5-10 mins.
Barcelona Metro (L9)
The Airport Metro line, called L9 Sud, runs all the way to Barcelona airport and has stops at both T1 and T2 (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2). These stops are called Aeroport T2 and Aeroport T1.
It is important to consider how long it would take you to reach one of the stations that link to L9 Sud line. This is because the L9 line does not directly pass through the major transport hubs such as Plaça de Catalunya, Estació Sants or Plaça España.
It´s only recommended to take this metro if you need to go to one of the areas on the route. For the city centre we recommend you take a more direct option such as the Aerobus or Train
RENFE TRAIN
There is a direct train that operates from terminal 2 and serves stations Sants & Passeig de Gracia. There is a regular train service that opertates every 30 mins and will take around 30 mins. If you are travelling early morning or late at night its advisable to check the times as its possible they may not operate.
PRIVATE TRANSFER
Definitely the quickest & most convenient way to travel to or from the airport. If your arriving at the airport then a uniformed driver will meet you off your flight and take you to the vehicle located outside. The driver will have your light number so they will be aware of any delays. We can arrange transfers bwetween 1-12 passengers and with prices from €10 return per person its very convenient and cost effective option. You can contact us for a booking or quote.
TAXI
You can find taxis located at both terminals. They are all painted black & yellow so are easy to find. The taxi ride from Barcelona airport to the city center should cost around €33. The minimum fare for service from the airport is €20, on top of which there is a fee of €3,10 plus a fee of €1 per item of luggage stored in the boot. After that, the fare is charged per kilometer. The journey should take around half an hour depending on traffic. During peak hours there can often be a long queue for a taxi.
BUS SERVICE (No.46)
If your on a budget or have no rush to get to the airport then this option may suit you. The number 46 bus operates between the airport & Plaza Espanya with approx 14 stops on the way. You can pay the fare with cash or a travel card. This service operates from 0450am until 2350.
